Vanilla and Lemon.. Oh My!
If you are like me, you are constantly striving to have that perfect "home smell". You know the smell I'm talking about, the kind when you go over to a friends house and you think "how does your house smell so good? Why does it not spell like a sweaty toddler?".
Whether you have children, a dog, a husband, or a sloppy roommate most of us are trying to keep our homes from spelling like a poopy diaper.
I've accepted the fact that I am my mothers daughter and I am a freak the hour before company is coming over. My poor husband has come to terms with this and know's that we will be cleaning the crap out of our home the entire 60 minutes before they arrive. I am running around frantic like a chicken who's had it's head cut off trying to make it look as though no one even lives here. My biggest concern is how our home smells, the last thing I want is for someone to walk into my home and think "ugh, what am I smelling!?" because in my house it could be a number of things. Dirty diaper, spoiled food or milk, someone didn't flush the toilet, or soiled clothes that are sitting in the laundry room waiting to be washed.
Having been on this earth for 29 years I have FINALLY figured out my go-to scents. No matter how much I give other smells a chance in the end they all do the same thing.. give me a headache. So my go-to scents are the classic vanilla and lemon. Both are mild and boring and I love them so much!!! The following are some tips on how to keep your home smelling good with these two scents using vanilla extract and pine-sol. You can also watch the YouTube video below if you're like me and would prefer to be shown.
Tips:
1. Put two caps full of Vanilla extract (you can use lemon or lavender oils) in a coffee cup, then place it in the oven at 300 degrees for one hour. The smell will spread through out your home putting you in a good mood or your guests in awe.
2. Pour Lemon scented pine-sol in the bottom of your toilet brush holder. This trick will definitely boost the smell in your bathroom, we all know what those toilet brushes have seen.
3. If you have children like me you own a lot of carpet stain remover and we all have those days when we reach for that bottle to find it empty!! Good news, you can also use pine-sol on stains! Using a cloth rub in a splash of original pine-sol, you can spot-treat grease or heavy dirt marks, or use all-around for a refresh. If you're not sure your carpet is colorfast, be sure to test an inconspicuous area first.
4. Dampen a cotton ball or two with some vanilla extract. Place them in your refrigerator for a delicious smell when you open that cold door.
5. Pour some vanilla extract in a coffee mug or microwave safe bowl and microwave for 60 seconds. If you recently re-heated some broccoli or fish this is a lifesaver!
